We welcome Rev. Andrea Vassell!
Rev. Andrea Vassell grew up with a love for service to others founded in justice. Her careers are the lived-out example of this life premise. She is a Registered Nurse, Theological Scholar Pastor, Conference Convener and Facilitator.
Rev. Vassell is a graduate of Lancaster Theological Seminary and was ordained to Christian Ministry in 2012. She most recently served as the pastor of Faith United Church of Christ in Union, NJ and now serves as the interim pastor of St. Paul’s Congregational UCC in Nutley, NJ. She is a member of the New Jersey Association Council of the Central Atlantic Conference of the United Church of Christ, where she co-leads the Social Justice and Witness Taskforce. Her area of focus is gender equity.
She comes from a large family and strong family values are foundational to the work she does. Being a mother to her teenage son Zachary and a wife to Rev. Dr. Pei Desrosiers are some of her greatest joys.
Her commitment to justice and the care of humanity has led to her founding Keeping Our Girls in School - a program that provides menstrual hygiene products to girls who experience period poverty in Nairobi, Kenya. She believes that no girl’s education should be stopped by her period. Rev. Vassell started the Wawa Aba Institute in 2019, a program designed to teach Womanist Theology and Leadership to emerging leaders in East Africa. She also conducts theological, healthcare education, and leadership conferences for clergy and community activists internationally.
