OUTREACH

The Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir provides musical leadership at the 10:00 am Worship Service on Sundays. In addition to anthems each week, the choir performs service music and special music as needed in addition to leading congregational singing. Under the leadership of Music Director, Dr. Iah Fontaine, the choir performs a wide variety of quality music, old and new, spanning several centuries of the rich tradition of sacred choral music and adding another dimension of worship and praise to the 10:00 am service.

The Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm and at 9:15 am before the Sunday Worship.  All people with the desire and ability to sing in a choral ensemble  and can make a reasonable commitment to rehearsals and services are welcome to join the Chancel Choir. If you are interested in singing with the St. Paul's Chancel Choir or would like more information, please contact the church office.

The Bells of St. Paul's

St. Paul's handbell choir was formed in 1984 when Sheila Cassels, whose husband, Bob, was the pastor at that time, led the congregation in purchasing three octaves of Schulmerich handbells.  Then soon after, handchimes were added.  Since then, the handbell choir has performed in Sunday morning services, played the prelude for the Christmas Eve service, played for many local organizations, and taken part in the Ecumenical Services at Thanksgiving time in various Nutley churches.  Our handbell choir has joined other ringers at the Central New Jersey Handbell Festival at Rider University.  As members of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, we have attended workshops and Area II Festival Conferences held at various colleges and universities where we played under wonderful guest conductors who are leaders in handbell composition and performance. Our rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings, and we welcome new ringers.

Children's Music Program

The children of St. Paul's are learning to play Orff instruments such as xylophones and other small percussion instruments as well as handchimes.  Angela Guerriero, a music therapist and educator in St. Paul's Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir, will be leading the children in lessons.  All children are welcome to attend, and no previous music experience is necessary, so please contact the church office if you would like to sign up your child.  Please check our calendar for rehearsal times.

Singers and Ringers Needed:  If you can read music, and are interested in joining our Chancel Choir or Handbell Choir, please call the office at 973-667-4812.
